Curry Co.

What is your business called and what does it do?

Our business is Curry Co. We make premium ready-to-heat Thai curry sauces with simple, high-quality ingredients, just like what you would find in a Thai home kitchen. Our sauces are vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-friendly, making it easy for anyone to enjoy authentic Thai flavours at home in just 20 minutes.

What made you want to do this work?

We have both always had a deep passion for food, especially the Thai home-cooked meals we both grew up with. During our paternity leave with our son, we realized how hard it was to find quick, delicious, and authentic Thai meals that also fit our new, hectic lifestyle. So, we decided to turn our passion into something we could share with our community.

What problem did you want to solve with your business?

We wanted to make it easier for people to enjoy authentic, high-quality Thai curry at home, without spending hours in the kitchen or relying on hard-to-find ingredients. We also wanted to offer something inclusive, flavourful, and thoughtfully made for people with dietary restrictions.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Our customers are busy individuals and families who value high-quality, flavourful meals but don’t always have time to cook. Many are also health-conscious or have dietary restrictions, so our vegan, gluten-friendly, and dairy-free sauces are a big draw. We also connect with food lovers who appreciate authentic Thai curries.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

We sell our frozen curry sauces through local farmers’ markets, pop-up events, and retail partners in Calgary and Edmonton. Every batch is made locally in a commercial kitchen near Chinook Mall, with a strong emphasis on consistency and quality.

Where in the city can we find your profession?

You can find us at farmers’ markets throughout Calgary, as well as at Blush Lane Organic Market, Amaranth Foods, and online through SPUD.ca. We’re also stocked at select local shops, including The Apple Lady and For Goodness Bake. To see where we’ll be next, check out our market calendar on social media!

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

Q: “What makes your curry sauces different from others?”

A: Our premium curry sauces are crafted using tried and tested family recipes for truly authentic Thai flavours. We focus on simple, high-quality ingredients, from trusted brands of coconut milk to Thai jasmine rice in our samples. All our sauces are vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-friendly, with no compromise on taste.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part is seeing customers try our curry for the first time, especially our young customers, and watching their eyes light up—it’s incredibly fulfilling to share a piece of our culture and passion.

The toughest part has been juggling all the moving parts of running a small business: managing production, selling at markets, and growing sustainably, while both of us work full time and raise a young child. As much as we want to do it all, we have learned the importance of pacing ourselves to grow organically and avoid burning out. Despite the challenges, we truly love what we do, and that makes it all worth it.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

We like to joke that Curry Co. gives us a built-in date almost every weekend – just the two of us at the market!
