Clean Club Calgary is a locally owned cleaning service that started with one woman’s dream to have more freedom and be her own boss and turned into a budding business. We spoke with Judith Virag the CEO of Clean Club Calgary to learn more.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Clean Club Calgary. We provide residential and commercial cleaning services in Calgary and surrounding areas.
What made you want to do this work?
I was always around cleaning. As a child, I always had to partake in the household chores. It was a bit difficult for my Mom as I was a tomboy and always into trouble, disorganized and dirty. I spent 15 years in Corporate Calgary as an Executive Assistant and after many years I felt that the corporations did not have much accountability and I was just tired of picking up the slack after people. I thought I will go and clean toilets, I am accountable and I will do my work as I wanted to.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
This has changed over the years. First I just wanted to solve a problem for myself, which was freedom. I wanted to set my own schedule. Then when I started hiring staff, because of the line of work I had a lot of newcomers to Canada. Since I myself was a refugee, I want to provide a good, honest, safe and responsive work environment for my team.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
We work with families and professionals.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
Clean Club Calgary generates revenue by providing cleaning services to clients in exchange for payment. We have 18 cleaners, an office administrator and a supervisor and we offer various cleaning services such as residential, commercial, or specialized cleaning. We charge our clients based on factors such as the size of their homes, the scope of the cleaning required, and the frequency of service. The revenue is generated from the fees charged for the cleaning services rendered, and the company’s profits are derived from the difference between the revenue and the expenses associated with running the business, such as employee salaries, cleaning supplies, equipment maintenance, and administrative costs. Our profits are low.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
Everywhere. Calgary is very saturated with cleaning services as it is a very professional city due to the oil and gas industry.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
How much do you charge? $60/hour per cleaner.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part is making a difference in people’s lives. To give their precious time back so they don’t have to do the cleaning and can focus on their families, friends and hobbies. The worst part would be when we accidentally break something. This can be very sentimental without knowing. We do let the customer know right away and fix whatever we can.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
That people think cleaning is easy. LOL, it is hard physical work.
Where can we follow you?
