Just Lotion

What is your business called and what does it do?

Just Lotion; is a sustainable Calgary company selling clean, rich body lotion in repurposed containers that your skin will love.

What made you want to do this work?

I wanted to start my own company and I am passionate about sustainability; I was making my own natural body lotion before and my friends were asking for it so I figured I’d give it a try. It was very important to me that it was zero waste because everyday essentials like lotion (especially in our dry city!) can add up for so many of us, so I loved that impact of it.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

I want to solve the problem that we are happy with what we’re putting on our bodies and keeping out of the landfill; I wasn’t confident in any lotion products on the market that were both ok to put on my body and were rich. I wanted to know that my body was absorbing beneficial ingredients from what I was putting on it every day. It needed to be good for me. So I did my research and made sure that every ingredient was either incredibly beneficial to my skin and body and/or was incredibly clean to put on.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Clientele would be millennials or Gen Z who are conscious of the environment. 18-35, typically female, living in a Canadian city. They typically bike whenever they can and wear clean products. They aren’t into fast fashion or trends or name brands; they want staples and affordable quality.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

We make money off of the sales of our lotion which can be from our online Shopify store, brick-and-mortar at Chic Shack Consignment, or sponsorship when companies want to support and giveaway local products.

Where in Vancouver can we find your profession?

I am in Calgary at 103 – 2502 16A St SW.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

What should I know when I shop for body lotion?

The body lotion is absorbed by your skin’s biggest organ, so you can imagine how much your body takes in over its lifetime. So, it’s important that you choose a lotion that your body will love. Let’s think back to the basics, to natural ingredients that are meant to be on your skin so you can feel good putting it on, and that offer remarkable benefits too. So, you’re looking for a mix of butter and oils and liquids that you’d want to feel safe to put on your skin.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part is when customers reply back saying it’s the best lotion they’ve ever used and love the cleanness + eco-friendly ‘feel good’ as well.

Worst is knowing how high the cost of shipping is in Canada and abroad; I wish I could spread this product out to customers at an even better price for them and on a wider scale.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

Haha, that I’m the crazy container lady.
