Five Minutes With: Indie-Folk Duo Jed and the Valentine

Edmonton’s Jed and the Valentine are a pair of dreamers – following threads of inspiration from weaving coastlines and prairie grasses alike. It’s no wonder their sophomore album landed at #11 of CKUA’s top 100 albums of 2025; their soaring harmonies, glimmering banjo and guitar, and richly melodic riffs weave a sun-dappled, charming indie-folk that feels like wind rushing through a car window while you sing your heart out on the highway.

EP or LP?

LP!

Early bird or night owl?

Maria is an early bird, and Jonah is definitely a night owl.

Road or studio?

A little bit of both! The road is fun until we start getting the itch to record, and the studio is wonderful when things are sounding good, and the inspiration hits, but the road is so important in getting the songs feeling good in the first place. There’s a healthy balance there!

Any shows or albums coming up?

We’re working on cooking up our next album right now, but we’re excited to be playing some really fun performances coming up — we’re doing a few shows on the road with another local band for an Alberta/Saskatchewan tour in April, and have some festivals that will be announced soon throughout the summer. Our shows are all on our website, so that gets updated as soon as our shows are announced!
