Tragedy Plus Time: Comedian Les Fox

Les Fox is a comedian who describes his style as “marriage counselling and an AA meeting happening at the same time,” which tells you pretty much everything you need to know. Raw, relatable, and clearly not here to sugarcoat anything, Les has been honing his craft on the Western Canada circuit with the kind of quiet determination that comes from actually living through the material.

Les Fox

How would you describe your comedy style?

If marriage counselling and an AA meeting happened at the same time and place.

Who are some of your influences?

Faris Hytiaa and Jeff Leeson. Faris encouraged me to get on stage for the first time and hasn’t stopped encouraging me since. The first time I hosted a weekend show, it was for Jeff. It was very early in my comedy journey, and I made so many mistakes. After two shows and knowing how little experience I had, Jeff made sure I left feeling good about my performance and gave me some great feedback. I still reflect on that experience years later.

Who was your favourite comedian growing up?

There are so many. George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Greg Giraldo, Ralphie May, Louie Anderson…

Who is your favourite comedian now?

Right now, I can’t get enough of Ian Bagg.

What is your pre-show ritual?

I usually stress over the set list I spent way too long organizing, only to make changes on the fly once I’m on stage.

What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?

Probably Encore Brewing in Cranbrook, BC. The setup they have is fantastic, the audience was amazing, and the comedians I was working with were people I really enjoy doing shows with.

What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?

Probably the bit about my essential tremors. It’s a good way to put everyone at ease about me shaking while I’m on stage.

What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?

Instagram or TikTok.

Tell us a joke about your city.

A joke about Lethbridge?

Come to see the bridge, stay for the meth.

Do you have anything to promote right now?

I have a merch store on Redbubble (FoxTellsJokes) or through my Linktree on my Instagram.
