Doodle Dogs is a Calgary-founded and owned pet store aiming to give owners a place to spoil their pets any time they want. The staff are fully trained to meet all the needs of your furry family member. We caught up with co-owner Meghan Huchkowsky to learn more.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Doodle Dogs is a retail dog boutique located in Calgary with 4 brick and mortar locations. We specialize in fresh food options, unique gear, and quality customer service including 6 days a week local delivery to Calgary and the surrounding area.
What made you want to do this work?
My brother Corey and I were working jobs within Oil and Gas that weren’t a fit for us. We always wanted a career owning dog boutiques so we took the leap and Doodle Dogs was born,
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We wanted Calgarians to have more options for their pets to go for beautiful accessories and quality nutrition. Calgary is a city of many chains and franchises so we felt there was a hole in the market for something unique and more local.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Folks who LOVE to spoil their pets not just on their birthdays, but every day! Through quality nutrition, enrichment toys and high rewards treats.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We have 4 brick and mortar locations in Calgary and an online presence offering six days a week delivery in Calgary free at 50$.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
We are located in Bridgeland, Marda Loop, Lake Bonavista and Sirocco Drive (re-opening in June)
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
When someone is looking to discuss fresh food options, Doodle Dogs is the go-to for quality pet food discussions. Whether it’s switching off their current food, looking for options for allergies or health concerns, or moving to a raw food diet. Our Retail Sales Associates are fully trained to support our customers with any concerns they may have.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part is we get to be your dog’s favourite store – as our tagline states! Dogs pull their parents into our shops and we get to spoil them with snacks. It’s my favourite part and after 7 years in business, never gets old. The worst part is probably when clients we’ve known for years lose their pets. Knowing how to comfort folks when they’ve lost their best friends has taken years and no amount of flowers or words can help.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
I clean up pee for a living?
