About Tyler Dixon
Tyler is originally from Saskatchewan, and yes he cheers for the Roughriders, but don’t hold that against him as Calgary has been his home for the past eight years. He is a teacher working at a wilderness- based treatment program for youth working to overcome addiction. Tyler is also a volunteer with the GOT Parks initiative, which aims at reconnecting Canada’s youth with our national, provincial, and territorial parks. During his time away from work, Tyler enjoys outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, and snowboarding, team sports, travelling, photography, spending time with good friends, and being at home with his wife and German Shepherd, Rome.

Historic Individuals that Calgary’s Major Roads and Trails are Named After

March 14, 2019 Tyler Dixon

Calgary is a unique city in many ways. One of the biggest things that distinguishes us from other metropolitan areas is how we name our major thoroughfares. The word “trail” is used across our city […]

Wild Jobs Part Twelve: Horse Rancher

March 11, 2019 Tyler Dixon

“We have almost forgotten how strange a thing it is that so huge and powerful and intelligent an animal as a horse should allow another, and far more feeble animal, to ride upon its back.” ~ […]

Vintage Photographs of Bears From Across Alberta

February 28, 2019 Tyler Dixon

I enjoyed my previous story, Historical Wildlife Photos From Across Alberta, so much that I decided to do a similar one, but with a focus entirely on bears. Bears have always fascinated me and are […]

My Search for the Bison of Elk Island National Park

February 27, 2019 Tyler Dixon

“Did you know that there are more bison at Elk Island National Park today than the whole of North America in 1890?” Half an hour east of Edmonton is the natural oasis known as Elk […]
