“A Day in the Life” with: Goatfell Pottery

With an eye for Alberta wildlife and scenery, Goatfell Pottery is a local pottery business in Calgary, Alberta. What started as a hobby has turned into cupboards full of plates, mugs and bowls. Over the past ten years, Cliff and Rachelle Bootsma have been developing their skills as artists to create one-of-a-kind functional pottery that emanates precision and beauty. Operating out of their basement studio in southwest Calgary, Cliff’s expertise lies in wheel throwing, while Rachelle experiments with new glaze combinations. Their daughter assists with online marketing and participates in the glazing process as well. Each mug is crafted with a team effort using multiple artists’ skills. Goatfell Pottery currently operates as an online business, though they show their work at various markets throughout the year, including Inglewood Night Market and the Bearspaw Christmas market. Their work is unique, local and made with hard-earned skill. They enjoy creating work that can be appreciated in a functional, everyday way. They strive to create work that is comfortable to hold and pleasant to look at.
