Amy Turnbull, the owner of Black Sheep Bacon Jam, shared with us this recipe for Crispy Grilled Cheese with Bacon Jam, a simple but trendy comfort food.
Crispy Grilled Cheese with Bacon Jam.
Yields: 2 sandwiches
Ingredients:
- 4 slices of Sourdough bread, cut on a diagonal to get more surface area.
- 2 cups grated cheese, I used a combination of aged cheddar and Gouda. Divide in half.
- 1 cup grated cheese for crispy “crust”. Divide in half.
- 4 Tablespoons of Black Sheep Bacon Jam
- 4 Tablespoons room temperature butter
Directions:
1. Use medium-high heat to warm a non-stick pan or griddle.
2. Spread a tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of bread.
3. Place bread butter side down onto pan.
4. On one-half pile one cup grated cheese, spread it to even thickness on the bread.
5. On other slice use a spoon to spread out your bacon jam.
6. Let grill for 3-4 minutes, then carefully flip bacon jam slice onto your other slice.
7. Use a spatula to “squish” sandwich down.
8. Grill 2 minutes, then flip, squish and grill 2 more.
9. Remove sandwiches from pan/grill.
10. Sprinkle the cheese we saved for crust into 2 equal piles on the pan, spread out to be as big or bigger than the size of the bread.
11. Put sandwich on top. Grill 1-2 minutes.
12. Remove from heat, slice and enjoy with or without your favourite dip!
