Peter Cormier is a singer, songwriter and instrumentalist from Calgary, Alberta. Since the creation of his band, Peter & the Wolves, at the age of 18, he has been inspired by the sounds of 1950s musical styles like rockabilly, rhythm & blues, and rock & roll. As a writer and composer, he keeps rhythm at the roots because, as he says, this music is best enjoyed on your feet. He has released five albums and three singles of original songs, and his band has travelled far and wide, from bars and clubs to theatres and festivals across Canada and around the world.

EP or LP?
I prefer an LP.
Early bird or night owl?
Stay out late enough and it’s the same thing, right?
Road or studio?
It’s important to take your time in the studio, but I believe this music is best enjoyed live, and the road is where the people are.
Any shows or albums coming up?
We will be recording new singles this summer. They’re some new songs that we have been playing live. We are playing shows all over the place this year, so follow me on Facebook or Instagram to see the next time we’re in Calgary, at venues like Mikey’s, the Blues Can or the Ironwood. When I’m in Calgary, I also have a weekly residency as a duo with my partner Meg. It’s Sunday afternoons from 1-4 pm at Angel’s Cafe, a beautiful little spot right on the Bow River by Edworthy Park.

Rapid Fire Local Questions:
What is your favourite local restaurant?
Angel’s Drive-In
What is your favourite street in your city and why?
Bowness Road, downtown Bowness. Even with all the modernization, it still has the feeling of the original town’s main street with its angle parking, the street car on display, and now one of my favourite venues, Mikey’s, has moved into the old Bowness Hotel. Also, I go to Bowness Auto Parts pretty regularly, which is an excellent store.
What is your favourite park in your city and why?
Bowness Park, because it’s probably the park where I spent the most time growing up.
What is your favourite music venue in your city?
It’s too hard to choose just one. I really like the Blues Can, the Ironwood, Mikey’s Juke Joint and the Palomino.
What is your favourite music store in your city?
Long & McQuade. They let you rent and return gear at any different location in the whole country. It’s perfect for travelling musicians.
