Five Minutes With: Country Musician Ashley Ghostkeeper

Ashley Ghostkeeper is a proud Métis-Cree artist from Alberta whose music is rooted in storytelling, heritage, and heartfelt expression. Raised in a musical family, Ashley found her voice early, inspired by the sound of her Aunty and Grandpa strumming guitars in their Red Deer home. From those early days, she began writing her own melodies, dreaming of the moment she’d bring them to life onstage.

Ashley’s songwriting is driven by introspection, authenticity, and a belief in music as a force for healing and empowerment. Her love for classic country tones—pedal steel, keys, fiddle, and honky-tonk flair—shines through in her sound. Her songs have earned spots on notable playlists like Apple Music’s The Lodge, Indigenous Now, Boots & Mocs, and SiriusXM’s CBC Country. She’s also landed three #1 hits on the Canadian Top Indigenous Music Countdown, along with a top 5 spot on the Canadian Top 40 Indigenous Music Countdown.

Since 2021, Ashley has taken her voice to stages of all sizes—from cozy clubs to large festivals and arenas. She’s been selected for residencies, workshops, and school performances, where she continues to share her music and story with younger generations.

Describing herself as “driven,” Ashley’s track record speaks volumes. She’s a three-time nominee for the Country Music Alberta Fan’s Choice Award (2023–2025), a 2024 Horizon Female Artist of the Year nominee, and a 2024 finalist for Calgary’s YYC Indigenous Artist of the Year. With a powerful voice and an even stronger sense of purpose, Ashley Ghostkeeper not only uplifts her Métis roots through song but inspires young women to follow their dreams with grit, heart, and unwavering resolve.
