Hygge Candle Co

What is your business called and what does it do?

My business is called Hygge Candle Co. We are a sustainable and luxurious candle brand that offers clean-burning candles that are good for you and the environment.

What made you want to do this work?

I’ve always loved burning candles, but what truly inspired me to start this business was my desire to burn something in my home that wasn’t toxic for my family or my dogs. I wanted to create a product that I could feel good about using.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

The main problem I wanted to solve was creating toxic-free alternatives for candles. I also wanted to educate people about the harmful effects of traditional candles and show them how to properly care for their candles to get the most out of them, as most people do not know how to properly take care of their candles.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

I would say that our customers are eco-conscious individuals who value sustainability, clean living, and high-quality products. We attract customers who are looking for luxurious yet non-toxic candles and are passionate about supporting small businesses with eco-friendly values.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

Our candles are available both online and in various retail locations across Canada, which are also small Canadian businesses owners. I also started hosting candle-making workshops last year, and I have been really enjoying teaching them! We have our workshop events also listed on our website.

Where in the city can we find your profession?

You can find our candles at select retailers all over Canada. We have a list of our retail partners on our website, and our candles are also available for purchase online at www.hyggecandle.ca.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

“What makes your candles different from other candles on the market?” At Hygge Candle Co., we focus on creating candles that are not only luxurious but also eco-friendly and non-toxic. Our candles are made from a blend of coconut-soy wax, which is a cleaner, plant-based alternative to traditional paraffin wax, and we use FSC-certified wood wicks that give off a lovely crackling sound while burning. Unlike many candles on the market, our products are free from harmful chemicals, making them safe for your family and pets. We also take pride in hand-pouring each candle in small batches here in Calgary, ensuring each one is made with care and attention to detail. Plus, we love educating our customers on how to get the most out of their candles so they can enjoy them in the safest, most sustainable way possible.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part about what I do is the creativity involved in making the candles and connecting with customers. I love hearing their feedback and knowing that they appreciate the candles that I’ve created. The worst part for me would be the backend and technical side of running the business. I’m not particularly good at the tech aspects, so that can be challenging at times.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

Why did the candle go to therapy? Because it was feeling a little burnt out!

Where can we follow you?

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?

I absolutely love supporting local businesses. Some of my favourites in Calgary would be Salty Sea Dog Designs, Soul Hot Yoga, Suntree Soaps, and Esme Beauty Boutique to name just a few 🙂
