Phillip Jones is a Calgary based watercolour artist that grew up in Innisfail, Alberta. He and his family have ventured the world by means of his day job as a project risk advisor. Phillip has had an interest in painting and photography his entire life, however this side hustle has really taken off in the past 10 years.
In addition to contributing photos to a local stock agency, Phillip began uploading painted images. Even though only a handful of initial painted offerings were made, these works quickly outperformed the photo royalties. He has since turned more of his attention to painting.
Phillip’s love of all art forms is reflected in the diverse range of projects and subjects he tackles, including figure painting, portraiture, landscapes and abstract colour fields. One of his highest priorities regardless of earnings, is to set aside a stack of portraits and artwork for his children. Artwork is one of the few things that people hold onto their entire lives. As well as instilling a love of the arts and a head start on a collection, he hopes they will always feel love through these works.

What ‘hood are you in?
We live in Hounsfield Heights which is just west of SAIT. Love its central location!
What do you do?
By day I’m a project risk advisor, minor hockey coach, and dog walker. After the little ones are tucked-in, I’m a yogi and watercolour painter.
What are you currently working on?
Currently working on a portrait commission donated to fundraising for the Georgie Bamber tyke hockey tournament. I’m also working on a large acrylic piece of my wife and daughter, and another portrait request from an in-law. I frequently set these larger works aside to start and finish a smaller alla prima piece in one evening.
Where can we find your work?
