Alchemy Jane

What is your business called and what does it do?

It’s called Alchemy Jane. We handcraft natural, botanical based skincare.

What made you want to do this work?

I’ve always had a passion for skincare despite the fact that I have troubled skin. As a teen I suffered from both acne and sensitive skin and found that there weren’t a lot of options that treated both issues. Between my passion and personal skincare needs I founded Alchemy Jane.

What problem does this solve?

Our product range covers all skin types including dry, oily, sensitive, and mature, and they’re formulated with only natural botanicals.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Mostly females aged 25-50 (but my husband couldn’t live without the products, nor could my 75 year old aunt so really there’s no boundaries, Alchemy Jane is perfect for anyone with skin)

How does your business make money? How does it work?

My natural skincare products are sold online and in Okotoks at Illuminate Healing & Hollistics.

Where in Calgary can we find your profession?

Skincare formulators are somewhat rare in Calgary, but we exist!

Natural skincare products can be found at markets, health food stores, yoga studios, boutique retail stores and natural healing centers.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services?

Are your products handcrafted?
Do you use any Parabens, Phthalates or Fragrances?
Do you source local ingredients?
Are your products made fresh?
How long is the shelf life?

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part of what I do is transforming peoples skin. Giving people confidence, and making them feel beautiful! Hearing customers success stories is what keeps me going!

The worst part or more challenging part (for me) is all the other little details that keep the business running.

What are your favourite jokes about your own profession?

Even though I make my own skincare (and love it – obviously) I purchase an obnoxious amount of other natural skincare products.
