“A Day in the Life” with: Performing Artist Alice Wordsworth

Anyone who has had the pleasure of spending time with Alice Wordsworth can attest that one aspect of their character is immediately clear: Alice carries an unwavering drive to listen, contribute, and uplift every community lucky enough to have them. She radiates joy and kindness, but beyond that, she is the most curious person I’ve ever met: taking a short walk with them feels like rediscovering the world around you, and being in their company is a surefire way to meet the best version of yourself. After graduating from the University of Alberta in 2023, she soon moved back to Calgary (and thankfully, into my life). In the time that I have known Alice, she has existed in one of two states. The first is the driven, pining state between projects, where she relentlessly catapults herself at superlight speeds (or, more measurably, about a buck-thirty on the highway) towards securing the next opportunity to engage with her craft. The second is when that opportunity arises, and she is able to slow down and let her inquisitive nature take the wheel, fully embracing and engrossing herself in the worlds she occupies. Each moment she spends creating is cherished like a sip of ambrosia. In those moments, Alice is her truest self, embodying art itself.

Which ’hood are you in?

Technically, I’m in Crescent Heights, but I like to say Bridgeland because it makes me seem hip and cool. I’m on the cusp between the two, so I think that’s okay.

What do you do?

I am an actor and producer here in Calgary. While I am a classically trained stage actor, post-grad, I have found myself mostly working in front of and around the camera. I started acting for film and TV the first year out of university, and produced for the first time this past year! I started to realize that my current artistic desire is to help other people tell their story, whether that is having their words interpreted by me (acting) or helping their vision come to life (producing).

What are you currently working on?

I am currently in post-production for the two shorts I produced last year. Both will be entering into the same festival circuit, so fingers crossed. My artistic partner, Yassine, is away getting his master’s degree this year, so once he is back, we will be looking to get started on a feature-length film.

Where can we find your work?”

The first season of Eyes in the Woods is available to stream on OUTtv, with the first episode free to stream on OUTtv’s YouTube channel!! Avalon Fast’s CAMP, a movie I filmed in Summer of 2024, is now doing its festival run and has been picked up by Dark Sky Films for distribution. This past season, I had the pleasure of being a part of the world premiere of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at Alberta Theatre Projects, and I hope to make my way around some other stages in Calgary over the next few years.
