Looking at Kim Dunn’s art gives you the feeling like you’re in the mountains and in the presence of wildlife — getting out in the fresh air, and enjoying the moments, and wildlife that makes you pause to take it all in. Her paintings bring the energy of the wild and calm presence — much like Kim herself.
Before painting full-time, she spent 23 years as an advanced care paramedic and also competed with the Canadian National Freestyle Snowboard Team. That drive, resilience, and love for the outdoors now show up in every brushstroke.
Kim lives life with enthusiasm and heart. Give her a mountain trail, some paint, and a new adventure, and she’s in her element. Through her work, she shares not just what she sees, but what she feels — courage, freedom, movement, and deep appreciation for nature.
Her art reminds me that the wild isn’t just a place — it’s a feeling we carry after each experience.

Which ‘hood are you in?
I’ve always had two hoods, and they couldn’t be more different- yet both are incredibly important to me. My inner-city home is in Killarney, an inner-city community in Calgary. I thrive on the energy of being surrounded by people, culture, and creativity in every form. It’s inspiring in ways that fuel my art. My second hood is the Rocky Mountains. Any free moment I have, you’ll find me there- seeking adventure, silence, and inspiration. The mountains offer a completely different kind of recharge, one that balances the intensity of the city life. These two places shape who I am as a person and as an artist.
What do you do?
I’m a full-time artist and proud mother, creating work that reflects my love for adventure and the world around me. I also work as an Advanced Care Paramedic in Calgary, which keeps me grounded and reminds me of the fragility and beauty of life. Every day, I make time to seek adventure, whether on top of the biggest mountains or simply in the little moments.
What are you currently working on?
I have a few projects on the go- finishing up a couple of commission pieces, and working on some of the largest pieces in my portfolio, for a local business, Una Pizza. These four pieces range from 15′ to 25′ and are a really exciting challenge. I’m also wrapping up a show at Cold Garden Brewery and will be showcasing more work at a gallery opening called Gallery Underground at the end of December.
