“A Day in the Life” with: Calgary-based Visual Artist Sunita Devi

Sunita Devi, originally from Coquitlam, BC, has called Calgary home for more than a decade. Creativity has been a part of her life since childhood. While building her career as a Registered Nurse, she has found that art has become an essential part of her self-care and creative expression.

With a focus on vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and symbolic elements, Sunita’s work reflects her connection to nature, spirituality, and cultural influences, while embracing modern artistic techniques. She continually explores new mediums and concepts, pushing the boundaries of her creativity. A self-taught artist, Sunita has been displaying her artwork in local art shows since 2021, including the Miniature Masterpieces show with the Calgary Stampede, the Calgary Sketch and Painting Club Art Show, and the Under $100 Art Show.

“Mocha” – A commissioned pet portrait. Animals in nature and our pets at home hold a special place in Sunita’s heart.
“Year of the Dragon” – Created in honour of the Chinese New Year: Year of the Dragon. Approximately 35 hours of work using the stippling technique with a technical pen.
“Orca Spirit” – Showcasing Sunita’s love for intricately repeating patterns. She is often inspired by the ocean wildlife near her hometown on the West Coast of BC.
Since moving to Calgary from the West Coast, one of Sunita’s dreams was to participate in the Western Oasis Showcase. She has been a featured artist in the Miniature Masterpieces Show at the Calgary Stampede for the last three years.
Sunita enjoys collaborating with local businesses. She was thrilled to have her artwork chosen as a tea tin label for The Naked Leaf tea shop in Kensington.
