(Calgary) — Mount Royal University will celebrate the time-honoured tradition of Convocation on June 9 to June 12.
Business leaders, community builders, an indigenous elder and a world-renowned classical music conductor will receive degrees and address graduates and guests during separate convocation ceremonies. An honorary degree, the roots of which go back to the Middle Ages, is the highest symbol of recognition that Mount Royal can bestow upon an individual for outstanding achievements and community service.
“Convocation is the best part of my job,” said Tim Rahilly, president and vice-chancellor of MRU. “It is a moment of great tradition and honour. Our community collaborates to coordinate this event where the stands are packed, and the gymnasium vibrates with excitement…all in recognition of the graduates here this week.”
There are 1,875 graduates scheduled to cross the stage, which will begin with an Indigenous Honouring Ceremony on June 9. Media is welcome to interview honorary degree recipients, graduating students before and after the ceremonies and university leaders, including Chancellor Arlene Strom, pictured.
