What is your business called and what does it do?
Vegan Street is a vibrant and inclusive vegan restaurant in Calgary, specializing in creating delicious plant-based comfort food. We focus on showcasing the creativity and flavour of vegan cuisine, from stone-fired pizzas and fresh pasta in our performance venue- The Attic Bar & Stage- to innovative bowls, burgers, and poutines, made entirely from plants.
What made you want to do this work?
I’ve always loved vegan cuisine and wanted to change the perception that vegan food is boring or bland. I was inspired to show Calgarians that plant-based dishes can be indulgent, exciting, and full of flavour, while also making a positive impact on the environment and animal welfare.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We wanted to bridge the gap between vegan and non-vegan diners by proving that vegan food can appeal to everyone, not just those with specific dietary choices. We also wanted to provide a welcoming space where people can enjoy incredible food, connect with community, and explore plant-based options without feeling limited.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our customers include vegans, vegetarians, plant-curious diners, and adventurous foodies looking for fresh, innovative flavours.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We generate revenue by offering high-quality, locally sourced food in a fun, casual atmosphere. Our menu features scratch-made dishes with bold flavours and creative touches. Combined with friendly and prompt service, we aim to create an experience that keeps customers coming back.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
Vegan Street is located in historic Inglewood, one of Calgary’s most vibrant and charming neighbourhoods.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
Question: “What makes Vegan Street different from other vegan restaurants?”
Answer: We pride ourselves on using high-quality local ingredients, making everything in-house from scratch (like our seitan “chicken” and “beef” and sauces), and offering a creative menu that appeals to vegans and non-vegans alike. It’s all about showing that plant-based food is not only delicious but can be fun and indulgent, too. We offer a mix of meat substitutes and dishes that celebrate plants in their natural form as well- balance is key in ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy when experiencing plant-based cuisine for the first time!
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
Best part: Seeing people light up when they realize how satisfying and delicious vegan food can be. It’s amazing to inspire people to eat more plant-based while building community in our space.
Worst part: The long hours and the unpredictability of running a restaurant can be exhausting, but the rewards always outweigh the challenges.
