Homegrown Business: Ose Adeyanju of The Cake Trail

What is your business called and what does it do?

Our business is called The Cake Trail, and we specialize in creating custom cakes and desserts for all occasions, including weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and more. Our cakes are not just desserts, they are works of art that are meant to be admired and savoured.

What made you want to do this work?

I have always had a passion for baking and a love for creating beautiful and delicious desserts. Personally, It is always lovely to look back at pictures from celebrations and remember the feeling of being around loved ones with a cake as centrepiece. The joy and satisfaction that come from seeing a customer’s face light up when they see their custom cake is what inspired me to turn my passion into a business.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

I wanted to provide a solution for people looking for unique and personalized cakes that not only look stunning but also taste amazing. Many customers were finding it challenging to get custom cakes that met their expectations in both design and flavour, so I aimed to fill that gap.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Our clientele includes individuals and families celebrating special occasions, couples getting married, corporate clients hosting events, and anyone in need of a custom cake or dessert in Calgary and the surrounding areas.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

We make money by providing custom cakes and dessert services. Customers can place orders through our website or by contacting us directly. We offer consultations to discuss their specific needs and preferences, and then we design and create the perfect cake or dessert for their event.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

The best question to ask would be: “Can you provide examples of past work and customer reviews?” The answer is: “Absolutely! You can view our portfolio of custom cakes on our website and read testimonials from satisfied customers both on our website and Google reviews. We take pride in our attention to detail and our commitment to quality, which is reflected in our customer feedback.”

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part is seeing the joy and excitement on our customers’ faces when they see their custom cake for the first time. It’s incredibly rewarding to be a part of their special celebrations. The worst part is the long hours from baking and decorating and sometimes the stress that comes with ensuring every detail is perfect, but it’s all worth it in the end.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

Why did the cake go to the doctor? Because it was feeling crumby!!!
