Homegrown Business: Kaella Doty and Brooke Saler of Love & Lore Films

Love & Lore Films is a luxury wedding videography company co-founded by Kaella Doty and Brooke Saler, two passionate filmmakers with a shared love for storytelling that’s both cinematic and deeply personal. From their base in Calgary, they travel the world crafting emotionally rich wedding films that feel timeless, artful, and utterly unique to each couple.

Kaella brings two decades of experience as a television news reporter with a gift for evoking emotion through narrative, while Brooke grew up immersed in the wedding world alongside her photographer father. Together, they’ve built a brand that’s become known for its thoughtful approach, blending digital and nostalgic Super 8 film to capture love stories with texture and soul.

For couples seeking more than a highlight reel — who want their day preserved with care, intention, and a touch of magic — Love & Lore Films offers custom collections that reflect each couple’s distinct story. They also collaborate closely with top wedding planners to ensure every film complements the design and feel of the day.

What is your business called and what does it do?

Love and Lore Films is a luxury wedding videography company capturing heartfelt, story-driven films for couples around the world. We specialize in creating wedding films that feel both nostalgic and cinematic.

What made you want to do this work?

Kaella spent twenty years as a tv news reporter and has always been drawn to storytelling, especially the kind that evokes deep emotion and leaves a lasting imprint. Brooke spent her childhood tagging along with her dad, a wedding photographer, learning all about the industry. After seeing, firsthand, how fleeting wedding days can be, we wanted to preserve those moments in a way that felt honest, artful, and elevated. There’s something sacred about capturing love stories and creating a legacy piece couples can revisit for decades.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

Too often, wedding videos feel generic, overly produced, or emotionally flat. We wanted to change that by creating films that are deeply personal, beautifully edited, and genuinely reflect the couple’s story and the people and details that are most important to them.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

We work with romantic and intentional couples who value storytelling, aesthetics, and authenticity. Many of our clients are professionals planning luxury or destination weddings who want their film to feel like an extension of their love. They crave something timeless, cinematic, and emotionally rich. We also work directly with wedding planners who are committed to bringing their clients’ vision to life and hire us to also showcase the production and design of the wedding.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

We offer customized wedding film collections, including highlight films, full-ceremony edits, Super 8 add-ons, and social media teasers. Couples book us through a consultation and planning process, and we travel globally to capture and craft their wedding story. We also offer a limited number of editorial and brand storytelling projects aligned with our style.

Where in the city can we find your profession?

We don’t have a storefront as we work out of a home office. We love meeting our couples in person to hear about their wedding day over a warm cup of coffee or a cold glass of bubbles.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services?

Question: “How do you ensure our wedding film feels personal and not like everyone else’s?”

Answer: We take the time to get to know you, your dynamic as a couple, what matters to you most, and how your day is unfolding emotionally. We also love to blend digital and Super 8 film to capture your story in a way that feels authentic, textured, and timeless.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

Best: Being trusted to witness and document the most intimate, emotional moments in someone’s life and then crafting that into a piece of art they’ll treasure forever.

Worst: The travel logistics and post-production hours can be intense, especially during peak wedding season when timelines are tight and the editing queue stacks up. But the emotional payoff is always worth it. This is why we also only take on a limited number of projects each year to ensure our couples are getting the time and attention they deserve.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

We’re wedding videographers… but if you’re holding a camera, someone’s bound to ask, ‘Can you take our photo real quick?’ Every. Time.
