Homegrown Business: Ivy of Jarman Flower Shop

What is your business called and what does it do?

Jarman Flower Shop creates bespoke floral arrangements inspired by natural beauty and artistic expression. We focus on fresh, seasonal flowers with a modern yet timeless aesthetic.

What made you want to do this work?

My passion for nature and art drives me to craft floral pieces that bring emotion and life into everyday spaces and special moments.

What problem did you want to solve with the business?

I wanted to offer clients more than just flowers—I wanted to create meaningful, personal experiences through floral design.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

Our clients are individuals and businesses who appreciate artistic floral design for weddings, events, gifts, or home decor.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

We sell handcrafted floral arrangements in various styles and sizes, offer workshops, and provide floral styling services for weddings and special events. I personally oversee the design and customer experience.

Where in the city can we find your profession?

Our shop is located at 1029 1 Ave NE, Calgary, AB T2E 9C6. We are open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 AM to 6 PM and closed Sundays and Mondays.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.

Question: “How do you ensure your floral designs reflect my unique style and occasion?”

Answer: “We listen carefully to your vision and preferences, then tailor each arrangement to capture your personality and the essence of your event.”

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The best part is creating beauty that makes people smile and feel connected. The hardest part is managing supply and timing, especially when flowers are seasonal. During the busiest wedding seasons, it’s not only mentally stressful but also physically demanding. But even on hard days, I feel grateful.

What is your favourite joke about your own profession?

Why don’t florists ever get lost? Because they always know how to find their “roots”!

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?

I love GOAT—the people, the energy, and the community they’ve built. When I first moved to Calgary, they welcomed me so warmly. It felt like finding old friends in a new city.
