In a gleaming effort to revolutionize the house cleaning sector, Nick Ross co-founded Home Spritz, an innovative platform designed to bridge the gap between homeowners and top-tier professional cleaners. This marketplace not only ensures convenience but also advocates for the fair treatment and compensation of cleaners, a group historically underserved in the workforce. Today, we dive deep with Nick Ross to uncover the driving forces behind Home Spritz, the challenges it aims to solve, and how its social impact is resonating within communities. Let’s discover how this visionary company is creating waves in Calgary and setting new standards in the cleaning industry.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Home Spritz is a leading house cleaning marketplace platform that connects homeowners with professional cleaners. We work hard to identify and hire the top two percent of cleaners, which involves background checks, tests, training, and responsiveness. Our cleaning marketplace provides a convenient way for individuals to find and book cleaning services, with the peace of mind that they’re getting a reliable cleaner that meets their specific needs and preferences.
What made you want to do this work?
Home Spritz was born from our realization that the house cleaning industry was inherently flawed. Cleaners are frequently undervalued and underpaid, resulting in high turnover and inconsistent service quality. After speaking with a number of cleaners, we discovered many were actively seeking other job prospects that offered greater earning potential. With this in mind, we established a company that pays cleaners a living wage and ensures they feel valued and respected—always.
Unfortunately, many Calgary cleaners juggle several side jobs just to make ends meet. We’re proud to be a part of the Living Wage Alberta network. In Calgary, a living wage is $23.70. While many cleaning companies offer a minimum wage of $15 per hour, at Home Spritz, we provide a higher rate (above $26 per hour) to ensure that our cleaners get the salary they deserve. Living wages support the communities we live and work in, and a strong community ensures everyone is living well.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
There is a growing demand for an easier, more efficient, and dependable way to book and oversee house cleaning services. Frequently, homeowners face challenges in discovering a cleaning service that aligns with their unique needs, budget, and standards. This leads them to sift through multiple providers before finding a satisfactory match. On the other hand, cleaners also face difficulties in securing consistent work and efficiently managing their business. By providing a convenient and trustworthy solution for booking and managing house cleaning services, Home Spritz streamlines the process for both homeowners and cleaners.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our customer base primarily consists of families in their mid-to-late thirties and forties, often with children, who are looking for recurring cleaning services.
We’re also always on the lookout for great talent. Home Spritz hires the top two percent of cleaners who apply. Our cleaners are seasoned professionals seeking a shift from independent cleaning gigs to a more stable source of income.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
Our platform is straightforward. Individuals simply enter their square footage, address, and the date they’re looking for cleaning services, and the platform will recommend a cleaner based on their needs.
Home Spritz receives a share of the profits from the cleaning services, while also ensuring fair wages for our employees and cleaners. We see this as an investment, and it has paid off. While we’re taking smaller margins, we’re able to hire and retain highly skilled cleaners, ultimately enabling us to support the quality of life for everyone and expand our business—a win-win.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
We work with clients all over Calgary, and you can search for a cleaner in your area by entering your location here.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
Question: How do you ensure consistency and quality in your cleaning services?
Answer: At Home Spritz, we address this by building strong one-on-one relationships between our cleaners and clients, ensuring you have the same trusted professional every time. Our cleaners undergo comprehensive training and are committed to service excellence, backed by our 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. This approach not only maintains high-quality standards but also provides peace of mind, knowing your home or business is in reliable hands.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
Bar none, the best part about what we do is the social impact we are having on people’s lives. We believe in strengthening our communities through providing fairer working conditions which makes everyone a little bit better off in the long term. When cleaners tell us how much they love Home Spritz, that makes us very happy.
Truthfully, the worst part is hiring. It is very time-consuming, and since we are aiming for the top two percent of the cleaner pool, finding them is no easy task. We get a lot of applications, and our process is fairly lengthy, so going through tons of applications takes time. We also don’t want to make a mistake in hiring so there’s extra stress.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
Oh, we’ve got cleaning puns for days, but I better wash what I say in an interview.

Personal plug for my favourite book store which I think more people should know about: Pages Books on Kensington. It’s a lovely place in the heart of Calgary.
