What is your business called and what does it do?
ENDODIAGNOSIS, INC.
Spearheaded by a Canadian team of healthcare professionals, we’re spreading the word about clinical decision support tools like ENDOSURE and other adjuncts for endometriosis care. Restorative reproductive medicine (RRM) guides our approach to improving women’s healthcare. RRM focuses on finding the root cause of reproductive & gynecologic health concerns like pelvic pain and infertility. We know that after diagnosis, endometriosis care can take the main focus. Connecting with personalized care plans to manage symptoms and access interventions that stop disease progression are time critical and part of our mission to bring forward.
For patients, it means finding an answer, precision medicine management, and limiting the deterioration of your quality of life and protecting future fertility.
What made you want to do this work?
Two reasons: I am a clinician trained in restorative reproductive medicine, and both the CEO and COO of the company have been personally impacted by having daughters with endometriosis. As females, we understand what women are going through, and as moms we understand the impact this has on families.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
As a clinician, I help women overcome infertility, and one of the biggest causes is endometriosis (77%). I was frustrated that it took my patients years and fighting with specialists and the medical system to obtain surgery for a diagnosis (currently the only way), and had to send them for costly surgery out of country in order to get timely care. At least 1/10 women have endometriosis, and 5-8 years is the current time to diagnosis for endometriosis. All the while these women suffer in pain, miss work, can’t enjoy a quality of life, told its all in their head, and prescribed birth control, which can worsen the condition. This is unacceptable. Early detection and prevention is necessary to ensure the endometriosis does not progress and lead to complications.
Who are your clientele and demographics?
Infertility patients, adolescents or women with painful periods and/or gut issues, pre pregnancy screening, but any age of women can be tested of reproductive age or menopause
How does your business make money and how does it work?
EndoDiagnosis is a women led FemTech company that acts as a medical device distributor for ENDOSURE and educational provider and advocate for women with endometriosis.
ENDOSURE is a medical device authorized by Health Canada.
How has your business grown over the years?
We have been in business for just over a year, with most of the first year spent on meeting with stakeholders in the government and medical providers, researching, and providing demonstrations of the ENDOSURE TEST. Once we received our medical device license this September from Health Canada, we were able to start selling ENDOSURE to Canadian clinics.
Where in the city are you located?
The CEO is in Calgary, the COO, Carolyn Plican and Medical Advisor, Dr. Mary Ellen Haggerty, are in Edmonton, so we are truly a proud Alberta-based women-led company.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services?
How can this test be used to build back trust with women who have had horribly negative experiences with the medical community over an endometriosis diagnosis?
The ENDOSURE TEST is great for the patient and the doctor and repairs that relationship. Mistrust occurs when poor diagnostic tests are available, and ENDOSURE changes all that as the first and only Tier one diagnostic test for endometriosis..
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
Changing women’s lives by reducing the diagnostic gap from 5-8 years to 30 minutes. A diagnosis instantly empowers and validates women and their suffering. They receive compassionate care, which gives them hope to move on, get answers and find real solutions.
The worst part is having to overcome so many barriers just to ensure basic and proper care of women with endometriosis while being told by medical professionals that they already have that care in place.
