In Calgary’s bustling local market scene, Delta Skincare has carved out a niche for those battling Alberta’s notoriously dry climate. Founded by Nicole Imeson and run alongside her mother Judy, the small-batch brand specializes in handmade, filler-free lip balms, soaps, and moisturizers crafted for sensitive skin. Tested on two generations of easily irritated complexions, each product is designed to be as gentle as it is effective — a personal solution-turned-business born from years of frustration with so-called “natural” products that still left skin dry or inflamed.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Delta Skincare creates handmade skincare products for sensitive skin, especially for people living in Alberta’s dry climate. We offer lip balms, soaps, and moisturizers made with nourishing ingredients and no unnecessary fillers. Every product gets tested by both my mom and me (two generations of sensitive skin), so we know it’s gentle, moisturizing, and effective.
What made you want to do this work?
I’ve struggled with finding products that didn’t cause a reaction or dryness for as long as I can remember and so has my mom. After years of swapping recommendations and still not finding “the one,” I started making my own formulas. What began as kitchen experiments turned into something bigger when my mom joined in. She’s the best tester, helper, and market-day cheerleader I could ask for.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
Many “natural” skincare products still have harsh ingredients that dry out or irritate sensitive skin. We wanted to offer an honest alternative that’s actually gentle, actually moisturizing, and actually feels good to use.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our customers are people who care about what goes on their skin, often women (but not always) women aged 25–55. Many are parents, hikers, nurses, or teachers, anyone who washes their hands a lot and battles dryness. They want clean ingredients, minimalist packaging, and a product that actually works.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We sell online through our website and at local markets in Calgary. We keep our process small-batch and hands-on, so every product is fresh and high quality. Bundles and market specials help customers stock up, and sampling lets people experience the difference before committing.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
You’ll find us at local markets all over Calgary; my mom and I love working the booth together. She chats with customers about their skincare struggles while I explain our ingredients and process. Check out the “where to find us” page on our website for more information on the markets we’re attending.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
Q: “What makes your skincare different from other ‘natural’ brands?”
A: Our focus is on what we leave out and what we keep simple. No unnecessary preservatives. No fillers that dilute the product. Every ingredient serves a purpose, and two generations of sensitive skin test every batch before it’s sold. We also keep our packaging minimalist and sustainable, so it’s as kind to the planet as it is to your skin.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part is sharing this business with my mom, working side by side, hearing customers tell us our products are the only ones that don’t irritate their skin, and knowing we’ve made a real difference for them.
The hardest part is getting new people to discover us, especially online. We’re constantly battling rising ingredient and packaging costs and competing with big online marketplaces that can offer free shipping, we just can’t afford to match.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
I’m my own best customer. I use every single product we make, every single day. If I ever run out of something, I know exactly who to complain to… me.
