During these tough financial times, it can be helpful to have the support of a financial professional to help navigate the new benefits, tax breaks and what to expect during tax season. This week we spoke to Jeremy Clark, CEO and President of CH Financial Ltd.  about how they can help improve our financial well-being.

What is your business called and what does it do?

CH Financial Ltd. We provide all the services necessary to ensure our clients financial well-being – from financial wealth and tax planning, risk management, estate and business succession planning, to structuring charitable trusts. Led by a senior advisor, our panel of experts collaborate to provide each client with personalized, comprehensive solutions – with the ultimate goal of achieving and maintaining holistic financial health.

What made you want to do this work?

I started as an intern in 1999 and worked my way up. The company is now five times the size from when I started.

What problem does this solve?

We are the quarterback for your finances, or your family’s Chief Financial Officer. Many people get fragmented advice, they have different people involved in their finances – an accountant, an investment officer, a lawyer. CH Financial Ltd. lets you get this done all in one place.

Who are your clientele/demographics?

We’ve developed a client base across Canada over the last 20-30 years. An area we are specifically focusing on is aspiring young professionals that are looking for an overall financial plan, investment advice, insurance review and financial documentation processes such as a will, prenuptial agreement, cohabitation etc.

How does your business make money? How does it work?

The main source of revenue is we get a percentage of people’s assets that we manage. We don’t bill by transaction. For services like financial plans and tax returns we bill hourly similar to an accounting firm.

This process is co-beneficial as it aligns directly with the clients level of financial position and revenue made from the work that we do for them.

Where in Calgary can we find your profession?

You can book an appointment with one of our advisers through https://chfinancial.ca/our website, and follow our social channels @ch.financial on Instagram and @ch-financial-ltd on LinkedIn. Our offices are located at 700 4 Avenue S.W, Calgary Alberta.

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services?

A good question to ask would be around how we’re paid. There is a misconception in our business with how we are paid on people’s assets.

What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?

The answer to both parts is people.

The best is having deep relationships with people – you can take care of them in a number of different ways. It’s rewarding being able to both educate and empower people.

The worst is when people get advice from all different sources. This is challenging because it’s hard to determine where it’s coming from. There’s a huge amount of information to sift through so we often have to counteract some of the advice people are given.

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another Calgary business that you love?

I love Buchanan’s Chop House. It’s a second generation family business that has amazing food, service and a great selection of scotch whisky.

I also love the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. I’m the President of the CPO Foundation and can’t stress enough the positive impact the orchestra has on our community.
