“A Day in the Life” with: Performing Artist Archer Landry

Archer Landry is a bubbly, talented, young performer making his mark on the Calgary arts community. He is very passionate about his craft, and you can always find him singing, acting, and looking for new ways to contribute to the theatre world. After seeing his first live theatre production of Seussical the Musical at Storybook Theatre, there was no turning back. His passion for singing, performing, and basking in the spotlight is one of the most influential parts of his personality. His dreams came true when he graced the Storybook stage in their 48th season, and he is now performing in his third mainstage show. Eager to learn and grow in his art, Archer is the living embodiment of the phrase “Confidence is key,” and his natural showman personality leaves a special impression on everyone he meets! When not performing, Archer loves participating in sports like hockey, rugby, baseball, and wrestling, directing school shows, and spending time with his three theatrical siblings (our at-home circuses, productions, costume displays, and car ride singing are just some of our favourite pastimes!) At home, there’s never a doubt about Archer’s love of music. As his older sister, I can attest to the fact that he was singing before he could talk. Even after the words formed, the songs remained in his heart and in his head, constantly making us smile and driving us a little crazy. Above all else, Archer loves to be onstage, telling stories, and bringing joy to the Calgary theatre community!

Sibling fun from the beach to the stage! My family is always supporting me and taking me on fun new adventures. We all love performing together.
Competing at the Calgary Vocal Festival, where I was awarded a scholarship for my performance of ‘Neat to be a Newsboy,’ and performing on stages all over Calgary. I am lucky to study voice and piano with my teacher, Laura Styler, at Noted Music Studio, and explore more acting opportunities with the extraordinary Tory Doctor at Calgary Actors’ Studio in the summer!
I love being a part of my school theatre community as a performer and volunteering with younger actors. I have even started my own drama club to give opportunities to aspiring performers and existing talents in my school.
Keeping active with all my favourite sports! You can often find me playing hockey, baseball, wrestling, biking, or exploring the outdoors when I’m not on stage!
Learning from the theatre community helps me be a leader in other team endeavours! I was given a great opportunity to sing the national anthem at The Raiders’ Hockey Club tournament that fundraises for Kids’ Cancer Care.

Watching live performances in my community has always inspired me, and I love supporting my fellow artists and friends. It’s been a dream to learn from and act alongside my heroes! Ethan Vasquez Taylor (top left) and Nic Chamberlain (bottom left) were in The Wizard of Oz, one of the first and favourite Storybook shows I’ve seen, and I am currently working on Shrek the Musical with both of them!

Which hood are you in?

I was born and raised in NW Calgary, so I’ve been going to Storybook Productions and attending theatre school there as long as I can remember! Storybook is pretty much my home right now, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What do you do?

I am currently a full-time student, and I am very involved in many aspects of school life, from outdoor education to sports, band and student council. What I love to do most is anything theatre-related! I found my passion for theatre while attending productions and summer camps at Storybook and other local theatres, and have brought that passion to my school’s productions as well.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on Shrek the Musical, which is my third mainstage production at Storybook Theatre. I am so grateful to be able to learn in such a supportive and professional environment. It’s been incredible to be a part of their mainstage and charity shows over the last two seasons, continuing to be inspired by the best and making so many forever friends! I worked up the courage to audition for last season when I saw the amazing production of Something Rotten at Storybook, and I have no regrets!

Where can we find your work?

You can mostly find my work at Storybook, which is my favourite place to perform. Somehow, it can have both the most loving community and the highest professionalism. I performed in my first shows in their ‘Season to Belong,’ and I definitely found a home and a family to belong to in the Storybook community. Come see me as a brave Young Shrek this spring in Storybook’s ‘Season to be Brave!’
