“A Day in the Life” with: Calgary Filmmaker Kevin Lance Littlelight

Kevin Lance Littlelight is a filmmaker from the Tsuut’ina (Sarcee) Nation with Tsuut’ina Dene and Blackfoot heritage. A graduate of the New York Film Academy, Littlelight brings a bold, character-driven approach to storytelling, shaped by lived experience and a deep respect for community, culture, and craft.

His thesis short film, Pizza Fiction, screened at the Garden State Film Festival in Atlantic City, NJ, where it was recognized for its sharp wit and distinctive voice. He has directed second unit and episodes on two seasons of the hit television series Horse Warriors, and served in advisory and community roles with the Calgary International Film Festival and the Calgary Arts Development Authority.

Littlelight recently returned to the stage, acting in Awowakii, an award-winning Theatre Calgary production written by Sable Sweetgrass. His work bridges theatre, film, and television—anchored by a passion for performance, music, and storytelling.

Currently in pre-production for his debut feature film, Inconvenient Store—a grounded Indigenous comedy—Littlelight is also developing a documentary project. With a keen eye for narrative and a commitment to Indigenous representation on screen and behind the camera, he continues to build a career rooted in voice, vision, and perseverance.

A goal of mine is to work on projects that include my children as crew and cast. This was a special reality for me.

Which ’hood are you in?

Born in Calgary and raised on the Rez, the Tsuut’ina (Sarcee Reserve) Nation.

What do you do?

In this day and age in film and television, it’s really what can you do, like everyone else trying to make something of their career, you have to act, write, direct, produce, even. I’m a filmmaker who has to do it all to get closer to the finish line, which is actually the start.

What are you currently working on?

You’re working on projects you’ve been dreaming about working on. You’re always working, but it’s not always paid work. I’m working on my own independent features, a Horror/RomCom and a documentary about one of the greatest Canadian filmmakers. Reviewing my music and seeing if there’s anything there, maybe an album. I’m auditioning for roles weekly as an actor and getting equestrian riding classes specifically for actors’ resumes up and running.

Where can we find your work?

Currently on APTN! I’m proud to say I have directed an episode or two of the hit television series Horse Warriors, and you can catch season two now. Keep an eye out for my feature film related this February 2026, the mystic said these are my years, and I am in agreement.
