Adam Ruby is a Calgary-based comedian who first stepped onto the comedy stage in 2016, competing in a Yuk and Comers contest and placing third, a moment that kick-started his journey into standup. From that first open mic to now, he’s been carving out a name for himself with a sharp wit and a love for bending the rules of comedy.
His style blends clever misdirection with a playful, rebellious energy, reminding audiences to embrace their inner child. A career highlight includes emceeing for Ryan Long at The Laugh Shop, where an unexpected Andrew Schulz drop-in electrified the packed crowd. You won’t want to miss his upcoming Candlelight Comedy series.
How would you describe your comedy style?
I like rules. And then getting around them, a good joke can break anyone. I love when Adults become silly like when we were kids. Cares and woes evaporate.
Who was your favourite comedian growing up?
Martin Lawrence, Bernie Mac, Chris Rock, Billy Connolly, Louie Anderson, Norm McDonald
Who is your favourite comedian now?
Chapelle, Norm, Bill Burr, Gabriel Rutledge, Patrice O’Neil, Steven Wright.
What is your pre-show ritual?
Bitch and complain about everything beforehand, tell everyone get ready for some bombs, basically everything, until the show starts mentally, destroys me internally and physically. Yet once the show starts I’m presently and loving it.
What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?
Any of the clubs in Canada are too Fun. Once I broke my collarbone and in the E.R. waiting room I had the best show that wasn’t planned. I still think about it.

The newest joke Ive wrote or working on. Nothing is better than writing a new joke. I have one about having a tattoo that keeps you safe in jail. It’s never not done well.
