Asta Dale was born in Germany in 1934 and grew up during WW II, learning to value homegrown food, as that really helped her family survive during the war. She decided to study Nursing and then went to England post-war to work in the hospitals there. It was there she met my father, Colin Dale, who was a young Doctor in the same hospital. They married and moved to Canada in 1966. After raising 3 children, she went back to school studying art at ACA, graduating in 1982.
She continued to study part-time at UofC, completing her BFA in 1989. Since then, she has attended many art intensives at Altin Art Center & Emma Lake. She has had shows across Canada from Halifax to Toronto, and across Alberta in Edmonton, Red Deer, Banff, Cochrane & Calgary.
I enjoyed her art interactively as I grew up, sometimes posing for some of her pieces. They were integrated into our lives, one of my favourite pictures is of my daughter, her granddaughter, on this awesome three-dimensional rope sculpture in the tree of our backyard, that doubled as a funky way to play in the trees.
