Twinkle Banerjee is a visual artist who has worked quietly for the last decade honing her craft in photography. She spent almost all her free time going to the library reading books on arts or visiting museums whenever she travelled, this eventually became her education and foray into the arts and she organically transitioned into becoming a full-time artist this year.
She has exhibited in the USA, Canada, the UK and Armenia, has been published in Berlin, and featured on CBC. In 2021 her work “Characters of Memorial Park” was part of an exhibition and publication at the ICP-New York.
Here is a reflection of one of the public artworks with a windmill and a church, by my favourite bookshop, Shelflife Books in Calgary.I jokingly tell my friends that the city may soon start charging me extra taxes for using its many gardens as my living room. I can usually be found chatting away with my friends over a coffee sitting either by the Lougheed House Garden or by Memorial Park.I have never driven while living in Calgary, and pride myself in knowing all the hidden trails and viewpoints around the neighbourhood. Here is a sunset from one of the evening walks this summer.Very rarely do we see heavy clouds here, so when the opportunity comes, I am quick to make a note of it.Here is an image of me during an installation I did this year at Stride Gallery, with my friend Tyler documenting the install.As harsh as some of the summers here has become, the afternoon sun in July and August reminds me of some faraway place. The light now feels different than it used to.Covid made me find spaces in Calgary I didn’t know existed despite walking through the same neighbourhoods for years. Exploring and seeing it in a different light made me appreciate it more than ever.Like most Calgarians, I await spring every year and go around spending each evening outside with the many gardens in our inner city.

After working in Finance and Sales for almost a decade, I decided it was time for me to become a full-time artist this year in 2022.

I am working on a few projects, most of which focus on decolonizing the narrative surrounding photography, which as a person of colour is something I am passionate about.
