We had the chance to talk with John Eresman, co-founder of Gradient Beverages Corp., a vodka sodas company that promotes moderation and health consciousness.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Gradient Beverages Corp. is a new, local Calgary company with a really unique concept for ready to drink vodka sodas.
We pack together six different strengths of vodka soda in one six-pack, giving people a new way to control how bright they start their night, and how light they finish.
For example, one box of Raspberry Lemon Gradient has 6 cans at 6 different alc/vol (8%, 7%, 6%, 4%, 3%, 2%) all flavoured the same. We also offer a super refreshing cucumber mint, and our crowd pleasing lime is coming soon!
We are targeting the growing “better for you” and “ mindful consumer” space, with some awesome flavours, an offering unlike anything else in the market, and 0 grams of added sugar.
Our hope is that we help people keep their nights bright by giving them a new way to moderate.
What made you want to do this work?
Gradually reducing vodka sodas was an idea we came up with together on a Thursday night when we were having drinks together, and wanted the good times to keep going but didn’t want to regret it later. Talking to others, and researching online, we found we weren’t alone in our thinking.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We wanted to make moderation accessible and desirable for a broad group of people. We wanted to create a product that would create a conversation about moderation.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
All genders, 20-60. People who see an opportunity to make positive decisions in their lives. Health conscious. Mindful consumers.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We mix and can our products in a new facility in Calgary Alberta. We self distribute to select Calgary retailers and offer direct delivery on our website.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
Our facility is in SE Calgary at 5067 11 St SE.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
Why are most drinks out there 5% Alc.Vol? The answer is that it is the simplest to make, but it doesn’t consider how the human body actually processes alcohol.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
Best: Talking with customers, and their experience with the product.
Worst: Getting into retailers.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
We are too new to the alcohol industry to know the jokes, sorry!
Where can we follow you?
