Five Minutes With: Calgary R&B Artist Justine Tyrell

Canadian R&B artist Justine Tyrell has established a strong musical presence across Canada with her smooth vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and early-millennium influences. Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, she began channelling her emotions into music at a young age, penning her first song at just seven years old. Her debut EP, *While You Were Sleeping* (2021), created during the pandemic with backing from FACTOR and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, features production by the Canadian duo Matthew Zoeteman and Timothonius. The EP attracted significant attention from major Canadian media outlets such as CBC Radio, Exclaim! (Emerging Canadian Artists You Need to Hear 2021), Virgin Radio, iHeartRadio, and Sirius XM Radio, and received editorial support from Spotify Canada, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.

Since 2018, Justine has performed over 400 times across North America. She is also the official Canadian National Anthem singer for the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders, opening each home game at McMahon Stadium for a crowd of 30,000. With half a million streams on her independently released debut project and a new EP set for early 2024, Justine is poised to expand her reach and captivate audiences worldwide.
