Five Minutes With: Americana Musician Jason Andrew Griffith

After returning to music in late 2022 following a years-long hiatus, Alberta-based artist Jason Andrew Griffith has been making waves in the Calgary scene with his distinctive prairie-inspired Americana sound, reminiscent of Tom Petty, Ryan Adams, and Corb Lund.

In 2023, Griffith collaborated with several talented Calgary musicians, including Mark Troyer, Mitch Jay, and Matty McKay, to record and release three well-received singles—”Four O’clock Show,” “Soil and Ashes,” and “The Gift.” These tracks garnered airplay on campus and community radio stations across Canada. In 2024, he unveiled his debut EP, Voice of Marie, the product of nearly two years of dedicated writing and recording.

Performing at venues like The King Eddy, Gravity Cafe, and The Ship and Anchor, Griffith’s heartfelt and captivating shows effortlessly connect with audiences. His performances take listeners on a journey, moving them to dance to upbeat storyteller tunes one moment and reflect on themes of family, nostalgia, and love the next.

Rapid Fire Local Questions:

What is your favourite local restaurant?

I love my neighbourhood Original Joes, good pub fare and friendly staff that all know me and my family. If I am in a foodie mood, Chairmans is pretty darn good.

What is your favourite street in your city and why?

I love Inglewood so I’d have to go with 9th Ave. So many great places to eat, drink, shop, and see live music, all with an authentic vibe.

What is your favourite park in your city and why?

St. Patrick’s Island is the absolute best! The little beach inlet is perfect for wading into the water, the big hill is fun all year long, and my kids and I always put on shows for each other on the outdoor stage.

What is your favourite music venue in your city?

Huge shout out to Gravity Cafe in Inglewood, because they are such great supporters of smaller local acts. But I think nothing beats the sound, vibe, food, and music at the King Eddy.

What is your favourite music store in your city?

Long and Mcquade, easy. I could spend hours tinkering around in there!!
