Five Minutes With: Singer-Songwriter Heather Jean Jordan

Heather Jean Jordan is a multi-instrumentalist and multidisciplinary artist who found her creative home in folk music and the ukulele. Her work, rooted in storytelling and humanity’s connection to the natural world, blends wonder, whimsy, and a deep sense of social justice.

Primarily known as a singer-songwriter, Heather Jean’s genre-defying artistry spans dance, theatre, and poetry. She garnered national attention for her bell-ringing performances during the pandemic and co-created the children’s theatre/puppetry/dance production Splish Splash!, which premiered at Calgary’s Festival of Animated Objects and continues to tour. Her poetry has been set to art song by composer Chris Byman and performed alongside pieces by prominent Manitoba poets, including Canada’s Parliamentary Poet Laureate Chimwemwe (Chim) Undi and John K. Samson. In recognition of her literary work, Heather Jean was recently named Banff’s Poet Laureate for 2025–2026.

With over a decade of live performance experience across the Prairies, Heather Jean’s highlights include appearances at folk festivals in Manitoba and Alberta, a solo amphitheatre performance at the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity, a featured showcase at Folk Alliance International, and an eight-week theatre run in Songs for a Winter Night at Carter-Ryan Theatre. She has also performed at artsPlace and recently returned to opera in collaboration with the Peaks and Prairies Ensemble.

Heather Jean is one-third of the vocal trio The Three Sisters, and her debut album Some Dappled Night is available on all streaming platforms.
