Our Five Minutes With Feature this week is Calgary-based country singer, Robert Adam! Originally from the northern Albertan Prairies of Canada, Robert combines his roots in the soulful simplicity of classic country with lyrics that offer more than surface meaning.
Robert is sure to make his audience nostalgic for a place they may never have known, and warm hearts with his small town charm. In 2015, Robert moved to Ontario to record his debut EP “Prairie Gold”, which was released in August 2017. “Rocky Mountain Lot” featured on his EP, made it to the top 10 in the country category in the Canadian Songwriting Competition in 2017.
Robert has now brought his acquired knowledge and experience from the Toronto music scene to the thriving scene of Calgary, Alberta. Where he has earned a reputation as an electric entertainer and carefully crafted artist alike. You can expect a sly wink, witty chat, fierce vocals, toe tapping rhythms and of course some rhinestones when Robert hops on the stage, not to mention a seamless integration of progressive themes alongside a clear respect to the old school country tradition.

Favourite Local Restaurant:
U & Me. Darlin’ there ain’t no better steamed buns anywhere else in town, and don’t even get me STARTED on their ginger beef.
Favourite band as a teenager:
I’m hesitant to answer this question this could be blackmail material…. Hilary Duff, Dixie Chicks, Carole King, Feist, Amy Winehouse
Favourite band now:
Kacey Musgraves, Charley Pride, Brett Kissel, Dolly Parton, Amy Winehouse(still of course!)
Guilty Pleasure Song:
I swear I have taste… Thank u, Next – Ariana Grande
Live Show Ritual:
First things first I always count my blessings, one of them being the privilege of being on a stage and have an audience period. If it’s a big show I love to eat McDonald’s right before because I always feel I sing my best when I do that. It sounds weird but it’s gospel truth to me.
Favourite local artist:
There is SO MUCH talent in this city it’s crazy. Some that have completely taken my breath away though include Mariya Stokes, Mariel Buckley, Heather May, and Kate Stevens.
Nose Hill or Fish Creek??
Fish Creek for sure. I live right beside it and have walked it many a times for a nice quiet retreat.
EP or LP?
LP I love longer pieces of work that tell a larger story than a song, and there is nothing better than falling in love with a whole LP. It’s like the joy you get when you read a very long book, it’s a story you get invested in cause it takes commitment to finish just like enjoying a whole LP.
Early bird or night owl?
Both. I wake up at the crack of dawn to go to school for heavy duty mechanics and then hustle my music late at night. Ya that sleep girl? Darlin’ I don’t know her.
Road or studio?
Road. Live performances is where I thrive. To share the same conscious space and feelings with complete strangers is such a profound and mind blowing phenomenon that never gets old.
Where can we follow you?
