Tragedy Plus Time: Calgary Comedian Kevin Christopher

Kevin Christopher is a comedian who masterfully blends observational humour with crafted storytelling to entertain audiences. His comedy, while appearing autobiographical, is a clever concoction of fabricated tales designed to evoke genuine laughter. Influenced by legendary figures like Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor, Kevin brings a unique perspective to the stage

How would you describe your comedy style?

My comedy style is observational, %70 fabricated, I try not to talk too much about myself because the audience is there for jokes, not my therapy session even though I say I’m talking about my life my act is really made-up jokes that I’ve crafted to sound like the life I lead. is that deceptive? If you go to a movie or a play, is the story those actors are portraying their real lives? most of the time it’s not but you’re still entertained!

Who are some of your influences?

Murphy, Richard Pryor, Don DC Curry, Seinfeld downtown Tony Brown.

Who was your favourite comedian growing up?

Eddie Murphy.

Who is your favourite comedian now?

I was at a friend’s birthday BBQ last weekend and asked the same question, she said I should say me, myself.

What is your pre-show ritual?

I drink Pepsi to trick myself into pep up like a caffeine boost.

What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?

Right here in Calgary we have the best crowds and heartfelt laughter.

What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?

My favourite bit is about Robert Pattinson getting cast as Batman reportedly catching COVID, which I say makes sense because Batman was wearing his mask wrong… his mouth was all open they wouldn’t have let him in Walmart with his mask like that, had Bane been the security guard he would have… I like it because I like doing Bane’s voice. The joke sucks though.

What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?

Netflix, crave specials or XM comedy club

Do you have anything to promote right now?

‘The Man from Philadelphia’ is my feature film movie out now on Tubi streaming service.

Where can we follow you?

My Instagram is the best way to see everything I’m doing, click on my linktree!

PAY IT FORWARD: Who is another local comic/comedian we should know about?

Well, he’s from Lethbridge and I think Johnny Pogo. Also, I would like to give an honourable mention to Dale Ward, a comedian from Calgary who’s doing really well, and also Tehseer Husain another Calgary comic that’s gonna be amazing in a couple of years.
