Kathy Stillie, founder and formulator of Suntree Soaps, has been crafting all-natural bath and body products for over two decades. What began as a personal mission to find healthier alternatives for her son following his autoimmune disease diagnosis has blossomed into a thriving business offering more than 30 vegan, cruelty-free products across eight product lines. Based in Okotoks, Alberta, Stillie’s company specializes in creating luxury bath and body items designed for whole body wellness, with a particular focus on sensitive skin care.
What is your business called and what does it do?
Suntree Soaps create all-natural bath & body products designed for whole body wellness. We craft luxury products that are perfect for daily self-care, rejuvenation and spa-inspired relaxation.
What made you want to do this work?
I have been handcrafting natural bath & body products for over 2 decades now. It all started when my young son was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, and I wanted to start using cleaner, more natural products in our household. Harsh chemical-filled soaps were the first thing to go in our household, and I started the journey of making my own natural skin-loving bars using therapeutic essential oils and other soothing ingredients that I could control. Over the years, new natural products were added to our line-up as I saw a need for healthier skin care with plant-powered ingredients.
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
I wanted to create a line of clean, all-natural products that clients can trust. I knew that there was a need to harness the powerful & effective benefits of nature with intentional formulas that could be used on all skin types, especially on dry & sensitive skin. Suntree Soaps now carry 8 product lines with over 30 beautiful, simple & effective items to choose from.
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Our clientele is mainly female-based, but our products cater to all demographics. We attract customers who are looking for a natural & effective alternative to their daily bath & body routine. People who are conscious about the ingredients that they use on their skin. Our products are proudly vegan and cruelty-free.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We have an online store, and we attend several local markets throughout the year. It’s so rewarding to meet our clients in person at these events. We have also partnered with several like-minded retail boutiques, shops and gift box companies across Canada that offer our products. We love and appreciate our wholesale partners!
Where in the city can we find your profession?
Our home base is located in Okotoks, AB. We offer local pickup at this location for our online orders; however, we have several retail partners in Calgary. All of our partners can be found on our website under the “About Us/Our Retail Partners” tab.
What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
The best question that a potential customer could ask is “Are your products truly natural?” or “Are your products good for sensitive skin?”. The answer to both questions is YES!. While some companies claim to be “all-natural”, they use fragrance oils which can disrupt the skin’s natural barrier, causing irritation, dryness or allergic reaction. Always read the labels. All of our formulas are crafted with your skin in mind. We utilize mineral & vitamin-rich oils, butters, clays and essential oils to ensure your sensitive skin is protected.
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part about my job is that I’m my own boss and I can create my own hours. Also, that I can utilize my creativity and create products with a purpose. The worst part about running your own business is that my mind is working 24/7, and I usually put in far more hours than a conventional job. The life of an entrepreneur.
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
I guess my favourite joke about me is that I always smell like patchouli, lavender or peppermint. The hazards of the job. Also, anyone who owns a bath & body company spends way more time in a tub than they would like you to believe.

PAY IT FORWARD: What is another local business that you love?
There are so many amazing local businesses that I have had the pleasure of meeting. One of my favourites would be the amazing ladies at Gray Haus. I think that I have purchased 4 of their bags for myself and as gifts.
