“A Day in the Life” with: Calgary Visual Artist Alisha Keast

Alisha Keast is as dynamic of a soul as you will witness in her whimsical and vibrantly colourful oil-painted art. Recently expanding her passion for this artistic expression into the public realm, she has been graced by the power of art in her personal journey for healing and enhancing her well-being over the years. It’s a modality that has brought her closer to herself and keeps her grounded in life’s true beauty.

As the enchanting world of nature has been a spiritual influence on Alisha throughout her life, it’s not surprising that her artwork will take you to majestic places of mountainous landscapes and into the flowering fields of the prairies, or on a memorable bike ride of heart-full vibrant colours. She also finds immense joy in capturing our precious animal kingdom taking you into the compelling souls of our wild world and deep into your heart with her specialized pet portraits.

The way Alisha lives and breathes the natural world around her is continuously morphing its way into her artwork. There’s not a day that goes by that she doesn’t uncover a new opportunity to expand her heart’s delight through the world of art. The world is a brighter place with her splash of spirited artwork gracing our souls.

Me in my booth
One of my favourite subjects to paint, meadows and mountains.
I really enjoy ‘the look’ when you paint an animal.
Capturing the light and the experience in the mountains.
I love hiking and backpacking through the Sunshine Meadows to Mount Assiniboine was my all time favorite.

I saw a Wildie once when I was horseback riding, and it was truly amazing.

Which hood are you in?

My name is Alisha Keast and I am located in Calgary, Alberta.

What do you do?

I have worked in Social Work, Mental Health, Addictions, and Healthcare for the past 25 years. Now I’m starting to balance my time between this work and my interest in art. Chava Tree Art is a new undertaking, I have been learning and painting only in oils over the past couple of years. I love to learn and challenge myself, especially about colours and oil paints.

What are you currently working on?

Currently, I am travelling from markets to festivals to share my artwork. I really enjoy meeting other artisans and people at these events. I like seeing others’ creativity, talking about art, sharing my art, or working with people to make a creation that means something to them.

As for my art, my interest tends to guide me, I flow from one subject to the next and back again. Most of my paintings at the moment tend to focus on landscapes, especially meadows of wildflowers, as well as animal portraits. Yet I’m currently studying and preparing to create portrait and figure paintings.

Where can we find your work?

You can find my portfolio on my website or follow along on Instagram or Facebook. My website includes an events page with all of my market locations and dates.
