Sisters Sarah Rounsville and Kelsey Taylor, owners of The Romantiks, have turned their lifelong love of flowers into a thriving wedding floral business. Based out of a cozy studio in Calgary’s Killarney neighbourhood, they design breathtaking floral arrangements for weddings and events across Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, and beyond. T

What is your business called and what does it do?
The Romantiks, we are a wedding florist with a small studio in Calgary, we service Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise and surrounding areas
What made you want to do this work?
We are both artists and always wanted to get into an artistic career, we both worked at flower shops when we were younger and fell in love with it!
What problem did you want to solve with the business?
We don’t really find that the business solves a problem, but we do offer an amazing service for clients looking to add florals to their weddings and events. Adding fresh flowers to your event supports local growers, canadian growers and adds a natural element to your special day. We are huge on supporting local & Canadian growers!
Who are your clientele/demographics?
Engaged couples getting married, local businesses looking for weekly or monthly florals, corporate businesses looking for florals for large events.
How does your business make money? How does it work?
We provide full-service floral design for events and weddings. Most of our work requires hours of prep, design and set-up. Our clients are paying for high-quality flowers and the labour that goes into executing the florals for that event.
Where in the city can we find your profession?
We work out of a small studio in Killarney

What is the best question a prospective customer could ask a member of your profession when comparing services? Give the answer as well.
We always recommend choosing your florist based on their portfolio, so make sure to ask your florist if they have a website, a portfolio of past work or even an Instagram account that showcases their work! Make sure you love their work!
What is the best part about what you do? What is the worst part?
The best part is designing florals that our customers love! We get to work with our hands, with a beautiful, natural product and we get to collaborate with other amazing artists, photographers and wedding planners. The wedding community here in Calgary is amazing and all our clients have been absolutely wonderful! The worst part of our job is that sometimes we are very dependent on the weather. Growing seasons for florals can change year to year depending on the weather and in the winter months, snow storms can really make shipping hard sometimes!
What is your favourite joke about your own profession?
That our job is so easy, we get to play with flowers all day 🙂 It’s actually a lot of manual labour, many days of prep work for each event, late nights designing, sourcing, emailing and executing the designs the day of can take hours and many helpers! But it’s all worth it in the end 🙂
