Five Minutes With: Calgary Latin Jazz ensemble Notas de 4

Notas de 4, Calgary’s original Latin Jazz ensemble, continues to make waves in the music industry with their latest nomination for the YYC Music Awards 2023. Their single “He Perdido el Centro” (I Have Lost My Centre) has been recognized as the Best Global/Cultural Recording of the Year, adding to their impressive list of accolades.

Building on their previous success, Notas de 4 has solidified their reputation as a powerhouse in the Latin music scene. With their unique blend of Flamenco, Latin Jazz, and traditional Cuban and Mexican influences, the ensemble captivates audiences with their intense, edgy, and dreamy performances.

Supported by organizations like the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and FACTOR Canada, Notas de 4 has released two recording projects, including their latest endeavour “Cosas Maravillosas” (Marvellous Things). Their debut album “Rosas y Lirios” (Roses & Lilies) received critical acclaim and showcased the band’s ability to reimagine Latin music within a Canadian context.

Notable performances at sold-out venues such as King Eddy, National Music Centre, and Chinook Blast Festival have further cemented Notas de 4’s status as a must-see act. From TEDx Calgary Talk Music to Expo Latino, their dynamic presence on stage continues to captivate audiences across Canada.

As they celebrate their latest nomination, Notas de 4 remains committed to pushing boundaries and exploring new musical territories. With their unwavering passion and talent, the ensemble is poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of Latin music for years to come.
