Say hello to Rusty, a small, goofy, fast little guy with a gentle heart and an enormous capacity for love. While the shelter environment can be overwhelming for him, his time in foster care gave us a clear picture of the wonderful companion he can be once he feels safe and secure. Rusty is now back at the shelter and is eagerly waiting to find his forever home.
In his foster home, Rusty blossomed into an incredibly affectionate, people-oriented dog who bonds quickly with his humans. He adores toys and playtime, but above all, he loves being close to his people. Rusty is a world-class cuddler who has no concept of personal space – he’ll happily curl up in your lap or snuggle into bed with you at night, and would gladly be loved 24/7 if given the choice. Despite his young age, he’s content to relax and rest for much of the day. He enjoys his daily walks, but doesn’t need to go far before he’s ready to head home.
Rusty does best when he has space and does not do well with crates or small enclosed areas. When left alone, he experiences separation anxiety, though this has been steadily improving with routine, reassurance, and consistency. He is fully house-trained, with occasional stress-related accidents during times of transition.
Food-motivated and eager to learn, Rusty gains confidence every day with gentle guidance. He takes cues from other dogs very well and has shown strong interest in canine companionship – he would likely thrive in a home with another friendly dog (small or large) to help build confidence and provide a playmate. His history with cats and small animals is unknown, so any introductions should be slow and supervised.
Rusty can be sensitive to loud sounds and busy environments, and would do best in a calm, patient home where someone is around more often than not and understands that trust takes time. With patience, understanding, and love, Rusty will reward his adopter with unwavering devotion and affection.
Rusty has so much love to give, and he’s more than ready to share it – he just needs someone willing to give him the chance.
