Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation, a registered Canadian charity based in Calgary, Alberta, is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to rescuing dogs and cats in life-threatening situations. By partnering with shelters in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Thailand, as well as helping stray animals and local owners surrender, the organization provides a lifeline for animals with no other options. Pawsitive Match focuses on placing rescued pets into loving families, creating what they call a “pawsitive match” and giving countless animals a well-deserved second chance at life.

Describe your charity/non-profit/volunteer work in a few sentences.

Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation is a Calgary-based non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless cats and dogs and finding them loving, permanent homes. We work tirelessly to save animals from various circumstances, including local surrenders and international high-kill shelters, and provide them with a second chance at life through fostering and adoption.

What problem does it aim to solve?

We aim to address animal homelessness and overpopulation by rescuing at-risk animals, providing necessary medical care, and matching them with compatible adopters.

When did you start/join the charity?

Pawsitive Match was founded in 2007 and incorporated in 2012.

What made you want to get involved?

The organization’s mission to save lives and create loving families for animals deeply resonated with me. The impact of connecting homeless pets with adopters who can provide safe, nurturing homes inspired my involvement.

What was the situation like when you started?

When Pawsitive Match began, the need for animal rescue in the Calgary area was significant, with many pets facing uncertain futures. The organization started small, relying heavily on a small group of dedicated volunteers and foster homes.

How has it changed since?

Over the years, we have expanded our network of volunteers, foster homes, and adopters. We have also built strong partnerships with partner shelters, pet stores and veterinarians to provide comprehensive care for the animals. However, the demand for our services continues to grow, demonstrating the ongoing need for our work.

What more needs to be done?

We aim to increase public awareness about responsible pet ownership, the importance of spaying/neutering, and the benefits of adoption over purchasing pets. Expanding our foster network and securing additional funding will also enable us to save more lives.

How can our readers help?

Readers can support us by adopting a pet, fostering an animal, volunteering their time, or making a donation. Sharing our mission on social media also helps spread the word!
