We met Chris Wipf, the comedic talent lighting up the Calgary scene with his sharp wit and infectious humour. This Calgary-based comedian crafts laughter out of everyday situations, sharing his unique perspective on life with audiences. How would you describe your comedy style?
I think I’m definitely in a spot right now, where I’m still developing that! Right now it’s really weird and loud, but I think I still have growing to do to see where my style ends up!
Who are some of your influences?
In terms of my comedy, I get a lot of good influence from the comics I’m around, there’s a lot of really amazing people in the Calgary scene and I think that we all work together to build each other up!

Growing up, my favourite comic was Anthony Jelsynk
Who is your favourite comedian now?
Right now I’m a really big fan of Chris Locke, he’s a Toronto-based comic that I’ve gotten into over this last year!
What is your pre-show ritual?
As bad as it sounds, I just like to be on my phone for a bit before a set, it kinda gets me out of my head and helps me relax before going up!
What is your favourite place you have performed? Why?
My favourite place in the world is GoodTimes Comedy Club in Lethbridge. I’ve done the room a bunch, and every time is just as fun as the first time, the staff, the club owners, the Lethbridge comics that come out, everything really works together to have a perfect storm.
What is your favourite bit you have written and why were you proud of it?
There’s a bit I’ve dubbed “the Martha bit” and it’s a very high-energy intense bit, it goes very absurd very quickly! I’m really proud of it because it’s a joke that works in every kind of audience, and at least for me, that’s been something that’s tough to come by at times!
What is your favourite medium for listening or finding new comics/comedians?
Honestly, social media has been really good for seeing new comics, and it’s cool to see the content that other comics put out!
Do you have anything to promote right now?
I run a monthly show called coffomedy, it’s a super fun one, if you’re new to watching comedy it’s a super accessible room, and we have a lot of fun! Info about that will be on my Instagram.
